YouTube: We’re all guilty
First we had Friendster, then we all migrated to MySpace, but now we have a completely new world to conquer. This website is probably very familiar to you as it is for me. Yes, you guessed it, I’m talking about YouTube. The viral video marketing giant that we just recently bought out by Google. There’s something more about this website that’s more than just another social networking hodgepodge. Is this site bad for us?

I’m sure I am not alone when I say that I have spent countless hours on browsing videos and also viewing some of the comments people have been posting about mine. It’s opened up this completely new door that many of us cannot describe the feeling of when we see our views rocket up on videos. I also seem to get that same feeling when I win a toy out of those claw machines at Dave and Busters.
Does this affect our productivity whether you’re working, studying, or even dancing? How many times have you taken a “break” (usually means 1+ hours) to watch a “few” YouTube “you-gotta-see-this”‘es. That’s right, I’m making up words now, but I’m sure you’ve all heard those terms before too.
I’m sure this problem applies to so many of our other social networking sites, granted there are still those few people who use it for monetary income, but most of those people aren’t us.
Now here’s the funny thing, these videos aren’t going to disappear, but yet we treat it as if we don’t watch it immediately, the whole world will end and we’ll never get our chance to watch it again. There’s this unexplainable sense of security knowing that you’ve watched all the latest greatest videos on YouTube, but is it really necessary? I leave that decision up to you, I know I’m probably still going to fall short of my guilty-pleasures (YouTube, etc.).
