DTR: Bam

I’ve taken around 3 classes from Mr. Bam. His musicality is insane and he’s notorious on youtube for making his solo buddies and assistants run out mid-routine. Best known for his choreography with GRV, he’s also a member of Boxcuttahz who had a run on MTV’s ABDC. Without further ado, here is my DTR for Bam.

Name: BAM (Brian Adam Martin)
Hometown: Chino, CA
Style: Hip Hop
Dance Experience: GRV, Boxcuttahz

  • Efficiency = 4.5

Bam’s musicality is so crazy, he has to take out a little time during class to remember his own moves and watch himself on his iPhone off Youtube! It’s not that big a deal when he has to take a 30 second break to review, it just might bug the super divas out there. Other than that, he is super efficient with his time and makes sure that he breaks down the moves piece by piece.

  • Atmosphere = 4.5

I noticed that in Bam’s classes, people don’t really talk. It has to do with the difficulty of his routines and nothing to do with his ability teach. It’s just the way it is, like everyone’s taking a test rather than a class: Everyone’s just super focused. But Bam still has a sense of humor and breaks it out to ease the mood.

  • Helpfulness = 5

Bam is always ready to help anyone and willing to break down any part of his choreography to the tee. He moves around the front of the class so that everyone can see his movements, and he repeats a newly taught section until he feels that everyone is comfortable.

  • Overall = 14 out 15

Do you want a challenge? Take this guy’s class. He’ll make you hear music more intensely. You’ll probably be sore the next day too, but Bam is an excellent teacher and I would recommend every dancer who is serious about hip hop to experience Bam’s class. He can get down with the ghetto, grimy hip hop tracks, but doesn’t limit himself to. Other songs he’s choreographed to include Sam Sparro’s 21st Century Life, CSS’s Move, and MSTRKRFT’s Heartbreaker just to give you an idea of his selections. Be surprised!
