Full Circle Initiative Project
I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to share an amazing project started by Charlene Cervantes (Funks SF/Kaba) and Kristen Brillantes (Funks SF). Read below about the project and some awesome events they have coming up…
Created by Charlene Cervantes and Kristen Brillantes, Full Circle initiative is a traveling project that provides those with interests in the arts the opportunity to share their passions abroad. In 2006, Charlene and Kristen met as company dancers for Funkanometry San Francisco and connected through their shared passion for art, dance, and community outreach. They decided to take their passions to the next level leading them to conceive Full Circle Initiative, a project they hope will gain exposure across borders and promote positive change in the world.
The focus of each project is to reach out to communities in need of the most basic art related resources. Participants of Full Circle Initiative utilize their talents through a cross cultural interchange during a 2 week program. This period is broken down into three distinct areas of interest: arts awareness, education, and outreach. FCI is currently a fiscally sponsored project under Dancing Earth, Indigenous Contemporary Dance Creations non-profit organization.
They have some cool events coming up…
Charity Benefit Workshop on Sunday, Feb. 28th (next week!)
Featuring: Ellen Kim (Lost Kids), Aubrey Caldwell (Essence), Clarizcel Perex (Essence), Odie Kim (Flo-ology)
and MOST IMPORTANTLY proceeds of the event will support the Tiny Toones Community Dance Center in Cambodia and Full Circle’s initiative to bring volunteers to teach dance there in Spring/Summer 2010 (date t.b.d.)
A little more info about the initiative to Cambodia is listed here: http://fullcirclei.com/2010-initiative/
They are still looking for volunteer dancers to teach with them. It’s set to be a 2.5 week volunteer program where volunteers will work with a significant number of youth who are eager to learn more about dance and be inspired by their mentors. The communities and youth they’ll be working with also come from areas in Cambodia where resources are severely limited.
All of the events they have lined up for next week are at this blog post on their website: http://fullcirclei.com/2010/02/battlefest-live-360-pre-party-workshop/
Join a great cause, a great movement.
