There is no mistaking in their attention to detail that these young ones are not only prodigiously talented but carefully instructed with respect to the crafts of poppin’ and breakin’. How they managed to master so many dimensions of the two styles, particularly with poppin’, as well as effortlessly involve other influences so early in their surely extensive and adorned future careers is beyond me. But then again, an artist whose technique is comprehensible is no more moving than a magician who reveals his tricks, right? Hats off to you three, though I’m sure your hats are cooler than mine.

I asked myself, “Wouldn’t it be cool if our dance community had a wiki page, with just history and records of all that has happened since the 90s?” I know there are already wikipedia pages dedicated to more well-known teams like Kaba Modern, the Jabbawockeez, and Quest crew, but a wiki page dedicated to all that goes down in our scene would help educate and keep an account of history of all the things our WHOLE community has accomplished.

If you would like to contribute to this wiki page, please comment to this post with your name, team affiliation, and email. We would like for contributors to be fully knowledgeable of the team they are representing.

We hope you’re as excited about this project as we are. Let’s keep the history and love of this community alive by keeping ourselves educated as well.

June 26th. Save the date. Watch dancers as young as 5 get their groove on.

Last Saturday, Studio 429 hosted its 2nd annual youth dance competition, K-12. It was an amazing show that showcased some of the best youth teams in our beautiful dance community. If you haven’t watched some of the performances from that night already, I highly recommend you go to youtube right now and watch all of the groups that performed because it’s so refreshing and inspiring to watch talented kids at such a young age do what they love.

While I was waiting for TM Juniors to perform in the 2nd half, I watched Breakthrough’s performance from the audience. There was this kid who had a deformed right arm dancing among the others who really stood out to me. My eyes went directly to him and I couldn’t take my eyes away every time he hit the stage. Despite his handicap, I could see his passion for this art through his performance. I was so touched by his dancing. I thought to myself, “Now there’s a dancer who’s fearless.” It’s kind of cheesy, but he left a lasting impression on me. He reminded me why I love to dance. Dancing is one of the truest forms of expression and creativity, and nobody can tell you what you can or can’t do. Props to that kid. If anyone knows his name, please tell me!
