French Dance Craze: Tecktonic

I love learning about music and dance from across the globe. There’s something intriguing about how even though you may not understand someone else’s language, you can understand how they feel by the way they interpret a beat. Apparently this is a dance craze that’s been around in France for some time now, but I only recently discovered it through a French group called Yelle, and their music video (which I’ve posted below). Looks like Tecktonic is a little bit of locking, a little bit of whacking, some house, even some popping, waving and a little jazz/funk. It’s pretty interesting. Honestly, if I saw people doing these moves in a club in L.A. I would probably think they were just drunk. But there’s consistency and a certain style in all the videos I’m seeing, so it must take some practice to get it right. Unfortunately when I was in France I was unable to witness any tecktonic dancers, but will definitely try and check it out next time. What do you guys think? Has anyone been to France and seen anyone dance tecktonic in person? The more I watch, the more it grows on me.
