UPDATE: Videos are uploading as we speak… these are a bit huge due to the resolution and quality, but I’m sure everyone will be very pleased :) 1080p glory is coming your way! ETA is roughly 20 hours for this whole batch right now, but I will post up links as they crop up this weekend.

Videos will be posted up this year, and we were lucky enough to be able to film the whole show.

DTR: Keone Madrid

Since this will be the first DTR (Dance Teacher Rating) post, I thought I’d start it off with one of the more obvious selections on who to rate: Keone Madrid. Probably one of the most sought out choreographers around the world today, he’s been doing big things the past 2 years. How does he rate as a teacher?

Name: Keone Madrid
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Style: Hip Hop, House
Dance Experience: Future Shock SD, Formality, Choreo Cookies

Dance Teacher Rating System

Everyone knows what ratemyprofessors.com is. It’s a public website where college students rate professors from all over the country on the criteria of Easiness, Helpfulness, Clarity, and Rater Interest. Each area is rated on a scale from 1 to 5, with one being poor and 5 being good.

So it got me thinking: I didn’t really relate to this website because I didn’t care which professor I got. What I did care about was the quality

Stick ‘em up

Like you didn’t see this one coming. Start the new year off right and join the family that stays hungry and consistently performs at a high level. I don’t need to say anything, I’ll let their dancing to the talking.

Did you catch it?

If you were watching last Wednesday’s episode of Glee, then I hope you did. The episode “Hairography,” which aired November 25, 2009, featured SYTYCD’s Katee Shean, Kherington Payne, and Comfort Feodeke, as well as ex-Ruff Ryder rapper Eve. Oh yeah…and someone else you might recognize…

Vote for Paulie!

pauline_mg_2504_lyf

Not that I have to give you motivation, but be sure to keep your phones in hand. Yes, I mean more than one. Following the pun intended footsteps of Ryan (season 1), Ivan (season 2), Hok (season 3), Twitch (season 4), yet another dancer from the Southern California hip hop scene steps out of the community and into the limelight as one of the Top 20 Top 16 on Season 6 of So You Think You Can Dance.

This one is for all the fellow gLeeks out there.

I thought I’d post this not necessarily because of Amber Riley’s killer singing or Glee’s eccentric song choice, but because this clip features Harry Shum Jr., aka Asian guy. Here Sue Sylvester (Jane Hilarious Lynch) encourages him to do his pop’n'lock, and for a couple seconds it focuses on that. And you all know how I love my pop’n'lock…it’s my favorite style right after ballet’n'jazz.

You’ve watched this team kill it all year, and now you finally have the chance to get a piece of the action. Yup, Common Ground is looking for talent to bring them into the next decade. Auditions start TONIGHT at the UC Irvine Mesa parking structure at 8 p.m. Don’t be late and bring your A-game, because this team ain’t messin’ around this year. From humble beginnings practicing in the garage at founder Kirk Arradaza’s house, CG has made a name for itself, placing 1st at Ultimate Brawl 2009. Inland Underground Empire

ultimatebrawl9-1576

For the past 12 years, this team has held it down for the underground in the dance circuit and they don’t look to stop anytime soon. 909 will be holding their annual auditions next week at the University of California, Riverside and they’re looking to see what the next generation of dancers have to offer this tradition rich troupe. With many alumni dancers graduating and moving on to Funkanometry LA, Culture Shock LA, Mavyn, Breed, Funkanometry SF, etc, there’s no doubt that 909 has bred some amazing dancers and will continue to do so.. will you be one of them?
