The Heat Comes to San Diego this Thursday

The forecast says it will be 72 degrees in America’s Finest City. Nonetheless, come tomorrow San Diego will find itself Blazin‘.

“One of the most popular contests at the San Diego County Fair,” it hails itself, reigning victoriously over the other fair contests, like the giant slide race and the fried Twinkie eating contest. Okay, so I’m not too keen on the competition scene at the fair, but it’s sponsored by 98.9 FM and from what I hear, the battle is gonna be sick. Groups ranging from 3 to 20 members will compete in three different age groups, and will be judged on five aspects: showmanship, technical skills, rhythm, costume and creativity.

The contest, both the preliminaries and finals, will be held Thursday, June 26, in the Chevrolet Del Mar Arena

If you think you have what it takes, here are few things you should note:
- The contest is open to U.S. residents.
- All entrants in the same group must fit the age category entered. (See application for a more detailed explanation of this.)
- Entrants will submit a video tape or DVD with a sample of their dancing. A Fair committee will choose those who will perform at the Fair.
- A parent or guardian, 21 or older, must accompany entrants 17 and younger at each level of competition.
- The application period ended for this contest on May 23, 2008.
